UPDATES

This page contains announcements, answers to student queries, and other miscellaneous material relevant to ANTH 457. To facilitate any repeat users who want to check out only what's new since their last visit, I will post the newest item at the top of the page, and give the posting date for all items. If any of you have items you'd like to contribute to this page (announcements of special events, seminars, etc.) please email me the details (or give me a flyer or note in class), and I'll consider posting it here.

As per discussion at the end of class yesterday, I am switching the submission process for Discussion Topics from hard copy to posting on the course GoPost site:  https://catalysttools.washington.edu/gopost/board/easmith/13073/

From now on, please submit your discussion topics online; they are due no later than noon on the class day to which they apply.  The rest of the criteria for the discussion topic requirement remain the same.

For general instructions on posting to GoPost, go to http://catalyst.washington.edu/help/gopost/start_conversation.html

If for some reason you cannot get things to work, send your email directly to me (easmith@u...) as a back-up.

I hope to set up a set of "discussion areas" for each remaining week in the course, but so far can't get the Catalyst tools to do this. So for now, simply use the following instructions:

You are also free to use the GoPost site for extended discussion of issues relevant to the course, but use the subject line identifier listed above for your formal discussion topic submissions so that I can easily distinguish these.

I have set up the GoPost board for our course.  The URL is
https://catalysttools.washington.edu/gopost/board/easmith/13073/

Note: the following is now obsolete (see post above).  As per discussion in class yesterday, use of this site for posting class discussion topics is voluntary; for credit, you need to turn in hard copy of your discussion topic in class.  However, I encourage you to post them on the GoPost site as well, and to use that site for additional conversations about the course material and issues.

Click here for some examples of discussion topics from past classes (not all ANTH 457) that serve as examples to emulate (and a couple of examples of what to avoid).
