THE COURSE

Spatial ambient

Fill a space with a looping ambient experience that provokes shared experience, conversation, layered interaction.

Week 3: Web:
tables and managing content on a page

over the weekend: make a drawing using a generative source. This can be analog or digital. record your process and show the drawing.

Post images of the process, the final drawings and written description of the project on a web page that links to your home page. This project is due Tuesday, April 17.

Week 4/5/6: sound and our spaces

Working as a team, you will put together a piece that utilizes sound (digital or analog) and drawings (digital or analog). You may add moving imagery if you wish. Each team will have its own space to install in. You will be responsible for all installation materials, technology and spatial choices. Space selection will have to come first, then piece development. Inexpensive materials that are carefully used are recommended.

We will assemble and experience these pieces on May 1.

Response

Create a response to the Brian Eno piece 77millionpaintings or another ambient artwork that raised possibilities. This might be a digital screen-based work or installation.

------------------------------------

Simple ambient

Build a a provoking piece of visual ambient using light as the base of your visual language. You will post the work on a webpage that changes over time using one or series of simple coding samples or animations. Visit our links for posting tutorials.

For week 2: bring in an abstract sequence of photographs.

- the photos must be your own
-they must be taken for this project
-minimum 4 photos, no max
-can be low resolution (like from a cell phone)
-I suggest doing more than one sequence.
-bring them in on a jump drive, cd or in your dante space.

Add a link on that page to your list of three source artists who work in ambient ways. Include a photograph of their work and a brief description (your own) of the nature of the artist’s pieces. What about their work is meaningful to you? If you pursued their interests further, link to the strands that you followed as well.

please use your student url (students.washington.edu/yourusername). If your url is different, please email it to me on April 9 before 5pm.

We will review the sites and the artist sources on April 10.
