Enhancers and recruitment
	Enhancers function at a distance and in either orientation; they may even be in an intron. They are believed to function by recruitment of TF's near the promoter.  Looping of the DNA may be required. The notion of recruitment is illustrated by the effects of replacing the DNA-binding domain of GAL4 with that of the repressor LexA.
