Why are SNP's of interest?
non-synonymous cSNP's may be directly relevant to disease
synonymous SNP's may affect translation efficiency (codon
effect)
SNP's in regulatory regions could affect transcription control
or:
in the presence of linkage disequilibrium, any SNP could
potentially be close to a disease- or therapy-modifying
gene; this could be detected by family-based studies or
population-based studies (association; based on linkage
disequilibrium)
