Oct. 5: We will have two topics. (1) We will set up our usual list of topics and a schedule (30 min). Please bring one or two topics that you would like to see discussed in the statgen seminar/journal club. These should be topics that are relevant to statistical genetics. They do not need to be restricted to human genetics. Bring these in written form so that they are easier to collect. (2) Weiva Sieh will give a summary of some of the highlights of the GAW14 meeting (30 minutes).
Oct. 12: Bertrand Servin will talk about his research. Title: "Comparison of tests for association in population-based case-control studies"
Oct 19: Audrey Fu and Paul Scheet: Olivier et al (2004) Haplotype analysis of the apolipoprotein gene cluster on human chromosome 11. Genomics 83:912-923. This is a data analysis paper. The purpose of choosing this is to try to connect the data analysis issues (goals, current approaches, problems, etc.) to the statistical analysis issues. So think beyond the end of the paper.
Oct 25: We will have a "first page" day. Bring 1 copy of each of 1-3 different abstracts from your assigned journal . On Oct. 25, break into 4 groups (postdocs - spread yourselves among the groups), and spend about 15 minutes within each group to pick the 2-3 most interesting papers from your group. Then break out into the whole group, share the topics of these top papers with the whole group, and vote on which papers should be the ones we read the rest of the quarter, and what order we will read them in (i.e., who is responsible for which paper). If Arindam & Saonli give me a topic by Oct. 24, then we will need 5 papers, otherwise choose 6 papers, and make sure you know which one is for Nov. 2.
