	• DNA molecules that have been separated by gel electrophoresis can be identified by hybridization with a radiolabeled probe • DNA is transferred from the gel to a nitrocellulose or nylon filter • The DNA on the membrane is denatured, and the filter is incubated with the probe under controlled conditions of salt and temperature • The filter is washed to remove unbound probe, dried, and exposed to X-ray film
