Introduction to Biological Anthropology

These assignements are due in class at 10:30 on the due dates listed below.  Please do not send them to me via email unless you cannot get to class (due to illness or inclement weather).

Weekly Questions/Assignments:

Due 9 January 2007: Describe each of the 5 key points of Darwin's theory of evolution through natural selection, giving an example of each and demonstrating the process through your example(s).

Due 16 January 2007: Watch a movie and describe 5 primate behaviors that you observe in the movie. Tell me the name of the movie.

Due 23 January 2007: Choose a primate species and describe its conservation status. Be sure to include the scientific name of the species and 2 sources for your information.

Due 30 January 2007: Demonstrate the steps of one possible meiotic division for a male animal with 4 pairs of chromosomes from parent cell (spermatocyte) to sperm. Differentiate between maternally and paternally derived chromosomes and between homologous (and non-homologous?) pairs.

Due 6 February 2007: Research a mutation found in primates and describe the consequences of it. What kind of mutation is it? List at least 2 sources of information.
