Bioengineering Capstone Project Resources
This page compiles some of the online resources that have been (or will be) discussed in lecture. More will be added as the year goes on, and your input on additional resources is welcome!
Material selection
As noted in BIOEN 404/405 lecture, the MatWeb material property guide can be a useful resource for selecting materials, as well as for understanding which material properties you should consider in your design.
Design standards
"Design standards" are documents that describe the best practices for designing a variety of devices, materials, and processes. Some are considered to be legally binding requirements (to be followed by any Professional Engineer), while others are considered to be guidance. Some are freely available to the public, while others are sold by the responsible organization, sometimes at considerable cost.
In the Sept 2013 BMEidea capstone workshop, a NCIIA (National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance) workgroup expressed student access to for-sale standards for educational purposes to be a priority and requested the NCIIA governance to work toward greater access; this action is currently underway.
