Lecture Material and Notes

Week 5, Lecture 14: Molecular Mechanism of Muscle Contraction
Gerald Pollack

Lecture theme and outline: There are alternative mechanisms to consider. The objective is to demonstrate several ways of thinking about same problem. In each case, discussion of possible tests of each mechanism, plus presentation of relevant evidence: electric-field theory; actin-filament inchworm theory; thick filament shortening theory; phase-transition theory.
