A. Gregory Bruce - Research Projects Ongoing and Completed

Herpesvirus latency and reactivation in macaque models of human disease, Co-Investigator: A. Gregory Bruce, Ph.D.

Agency:  National Center for Research Resources

Type: R24-RR023343 Period: 07/01/07-06/30/12

The major goals of this project are to complete the sequence of the RFHV genome, develop antibody reagents and serological assays for macaque RV1 and RV2 rhadinoviruses, and analyze the infection and reactivation of the macaque RV1 and RV2 rhadinoviruses in macaques in vivo.

“A macaque model for AIDS-related oral malignancies , Co-Investigator: A. Gregory Bruce, Ph.D.

Agency: National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research

Type:  R21 DE016826; Period: (5/1/06-4/30/08)

The major goal of this project is to determine the role of the oral cavity in the life cycle and pathogenesis of RFHV in macaques.

CODEHOP: Unique web-based technology for gene discovery”, Co-Investigator: A. Gregory Bruce, Ph.D.

Agency:  National Center for Research Resources

Type: R24 RR021346 Period: (9/01/06-8/30/10)

The major goal of this project is to further develop the CODEHOP software, web site and PCR amplification technology.

Sub-Project: “Primate Pathogen Identification and Characterization”, Co-Investigator: A. Gregory Bruce, Ph.D.

National Primate Research Center Core Grant (S. Nelson – P.I.)

Agency: NIH/NCRR; P51 RR00166 (5/01/02-4/30/12)

The major goals of this colony-health related grant are to identify and characterize new primate pathogens in primate species maintained at the Washington National Primate Research Center.

"Cellular Homologs in a New Simian Gammaherpesvirus", Co-Investigator: A. Gregory Bruce, Ph.D.

Agency: NIH/NCRR; R01 RR13154 (10/01/97-9/30/08)

The major goals of this project are to determine the genomic organization of RFHVMn, identify RFHVMn homologs of growth regulatory genes and cytokines, and determine the prevalence of RFHVMn in RF lesions.

Sub-Project: "Oncostatin M expression and activity in gingival cells", Co-Investigator: A. Gregory Bruce, Ph.D.

P60 Comprehensive Oral Health Research Center of Discovery

Agency: NIH/NCRR;  (4/1/99-3/31/02)

The major goals of this project are to identify cell types expressing OSM in vivo, study the effects of bacterial pathogens and proinflammatory modulators on the expression of OSM in gingival epithelial cells in vitro, and study the effects of OSM on the expression of various cellular mRNAs as an autocrine factor in gingival epithelial cells and as a paracrine factor in gingival fibroblast cells in vitro.
