The region of interest of the first scan was too low for the total hip. It should be only 10 pixels from the lesser trochanter. The femoral shaft is very dense, and if the total hip region is too low, it will include too much of the shaft.
I asked the technologist to reanalyze the scan, setting the lower limit of the intertrochanteric region at the standard place. This resulted in the above scan, where the total hip was .812 g/cm2, T-score of -1.07. This was more in line with her other values.
