BMD interpretation mistakes - case 1



This is a 73-year old female with low bone density referred for follow-up study. . .

IMPRESSION:
1. Severe osteopenia of both the lumbar spine and left hip
2. Significant improvement in density of the lumbar spine over the last 15 months, increasing 3.10% per year.
3. A nonsignificant loss of density in the left hip of 0.43% per year.
4. Overall this patient remains at high risk for an osteoporotic related fracture, although at somewhat lower risk in the spine compared to 15 months ago.
