Week 3:
Creating a PPT Presentation and Saving as HTML
You will learn how to create a basic powerpoint presentation, save it as HTML,
and upload those files to your web site (created
last
week with
SimpleSite).
-
Create a powerpoint presentation.
(Catalyst how-to)
- Save as HTML - (web page, not single web page)
- Tip 1: Keep the name of the PPT file short
- Tip 2: File name should not contain spaces
- Tip 3: Avoid special characters in the name (! # ? @ etc)
- Tip 4: Use lower case
- Good names: karen_podcasting ... smith_digital_divide
- Bad name: Kathy's Powerpoint About Online Politics
- Create a new folder in simple site to hold the powerpoint files. Name it ppt_example (note
lower case and underscore)
- Upload the powerpoint files to this new folder.
- The time consuming way is to do this one-file-at-at-time in Simple Site
- The expeditious way is to use SecureFTP (or Secure Fetch, for Mac folk) as demonstrated in class last week. I would practice this in class, if I were in your shoes!
- Configuring Dreamweaver for UW FTP:
- Add a link to the PPT (ppt_example/index.htm) on your home page.
- A "how
to" Quicktime Movie if you have forgotten how to make a link
