Course Description: Transportation policy will play an increasingly important role as society identifies ways to create long-term, sustainable solutions to transportation issues regarding health and safety, the economy, the environment, and societal equity and livability. This course will provide students with an understanding of existing transportation policy and the policy making process. Students will also study the current structure of transportation governing agencies and transportation funding mechanisms. Students will conduct a policy analysis of a particular transportation policy, and gain an understanding of the complexity of the development, implementation, and evaluation of existing policies. The course provides future transportation engineers with an increased knowledge of the larger role which transportation plays in our society, and the background to shape future policy.
