Deliverable 1, Due October 15th by 9am

Deliverable 2, Due November 23rd by 9am

As discussed on the first day of class, students will be grouped into teams of 3 to 4 students.  Each group will have at least one architecture student and 1 construction management student.
The people in your team come from a range of backgrounds, and bring different perspectives to the table.  A mix of people can broaden your horizons and can add interesting dimensions to your project.  This is your opportunity to meet and work with someone you don't know . . . Work as a team and enjoy the group process.

Project Overview:
On Tuesday, November 24, the class will meet in Gould Court, and each team will provide an informational poster and product mock-up (physical or digital) for a Product Fair.  Each team is to research an innovative building material, system or assembly for exterior or interior construction.  It could be a new material – such as new plastics or a new concrete composite, a system – such as a fire safety control panel, a structural or fabrication  system,  or an assembly – a metal and glass exterior cladding assembly.   Research possibilities include contacting manufacturers for samples, visiting local manufacturing facilities, and reporting on research and development initiatives at universities or in industry.
The poster should present material, assembly or product life cycle facts – raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, construction, performance, and removal / disposal.

Mock Up:
The mock-up should be a physical representation of the material or assembly.  The goal of the mock up is to show how the product is built and how it performs, and provide the team with some hands-on experience with the subject.  Images of the mockup can be included on the poster, but there should be a physical component, presented adjacent to your poster (see examples in Material Library or on MDID).  If possible, your presentation should include a physical full-size actual sample of the material or product.  This sample may be part of your mock up.  If a sample is not available, a mock up should represent the substance, form, and function of the product.

The Workplan:
By the third week of the quarter, your team will have developed a Team Workplan, and submitted a written outline of your project, including an Overview, Team Composition, Schedule, and Strategy for successful collaboration. You will receive detailed requirements for this Deliverable. You will have an opportunity to evaluate your personal contribution and that of your teammates.

The Product Fair:
On Monday, November 23rd, your team will meet in Gould Court during your scheduled Lab time to set up your presentation.  You will receive detailed submittal instructions for this in  "Deliverable 2".  At this time, all materials required for the product display should be set-up.

On the day of the Product Fair, the class will meet in Gould Court at 9:30 to present the posters and mock-ups.  Posters and physical mock ups will be graded during both the setup day and the day of the presentations; the Professor and GSAs will visit each group presentation to grade either on Monday or on Tuesday 9:30 and 11:30 am to view your presentation and ask questions.

For the first hour (at about 9:30), 1 or 2 students in the group will stand next to the poster, while the others walk around the hall to learn about the other projects.  For the second hour (at about 10:30), the students will switch roles, such that everyone in the group has stood by their poster to explain to onlookers what the product is about, and everyone will also have a chance to walk around the fair to evaluate other product posters.  At the end of the class, each student shall have filled out and turned in a "Day-of" evaluation form (provided at the beginning of the Product Fair), that will include your evaluation of 3-4 other group presentations as well as your assessment of your own group's effort.  Faculty and department advisory board members from CBE will be invited to participate in the fair!

Clean up begins at 11:30.  We have reserved display space for the posters for after the fair itself.  At takedown, pin your poster on the display spaces around Gould Court - Retrieve your poster before Thanksgiving!  Removal of posters is mandatory, though posters and mockups can be donated to the library during GSA office hours.

Have fun!
