"Your task is to build a reasearch "portal" for yourself for doing construction market research on the Internet. "

  1. Create a separate webpage named "research.html" under your public_html directory and link this to your home page.
  1. Create the following table using the "Design View". Do not worry about the previous version of this assignment that discussed using the "Analyze" function, we will talk about this in class later. Make sure you specify the correct data format for each field.

Research

Website Name (with hyperlink)
Content Keyword (short text)
Content Description (long text)
Rating (1 to 5 "stars")
Date Last Viewed
  • Note: A keyword would be a one word descriptor for the page like, "pile-driving", "concrete", or "architecture". Create a new form using the "Form Wizard" linked to the Research table for input of your data. Your form should include all the fields that are shown here.
    1. Browse the web using at least 3 different "search engines" to populate the table with data.  Options include:

    Google.com    Yahoo.com    Metacrawler.com   MSN.com    Infospace.com

    You should catalog at least twenty different sites that relate to your interests in construction. Sort the table by "Rating" in descending order. (Unleashed 594)

    1. Create a Query of the table(s) called "Top Picks" using "design view" showing the following fields:

    Top Picks

    Website Name
    Content Description
    Rating

    Choose only those entries in your table(s) that have 3 "stars" or more.

    1. Add the links to these "Top" websites to your research.html page. (Cut and paste from Access into Word or Front Page Express - select a column by clicking on the field name of the table, <shift> click to select multiple columns.
    2. Email a copy of the completed database to mhuppert@u.washington.edu by 6pm April 30.

     

    EXTRA CREDIT

    1. Publish the results of your "Top Picks" to your Webpage using "Save as HTML" from Access. (UW supports "static" publishing only.)
    2. Embed a link to the newly created webpage in your email for the assignment.
