"Develop a
functional design for your term project."
- Create a 2-3 page, detailed description of your data
model(s).
- Describe the business goals and desired outcomes
of the project.
- List and describe all of the system input.
- List and describe all of the system output.
- If implementing a database, list and describe
your tables and fields. (identification, data
type and length)
- If implementing a spreadsheet, list and describe
your variables. (identification, data type and
length)
- Describe how all of the data relate to one
another.
- Create a simple entity-relationship
diagram to clarify the data and
relationships visually.
- Start to define and analyze your process model(s). This
will be an ongoing process throughout your design and
implementation of the term project. For this exercise,
pick one subcomponent of your system and explicitly
identify it.
- Describe each individual process within the
subcomponent.
- Identify which data are part of the process.
- How are these data related?
- Create a simple functional process
diagram to clarify how the data flows
through the process.
- Email a copy of the completed Word document to mhuppert@u.washington.edu
by 6pm, May 21st.
This assignment is intended to give you a "first
cut" at developing your project concept. It may take a
significant amount of time to do this work. If you cannot
quantify most of your project within the scope of this exercise,
please contact me so we can pare it down. However, rest assured
that if you perform the above tasks, you will be well positioned
to successfully implement your project.
