Considerable efforts have been made to understand cold atomic matter in rotating traps. Various fascinating phenomena such as vortex lattices, quantum Hall and fractional quantum Hall physics have been explored either experimentally or/and theoretically. In this talk, I am going to focus on the physics of fractionalized vortices in BECs of sodium atoms. I will talk about the topological stabilities, energetics and magnetic properties of half-integer vortices in BECs and dynamics of vortex nucleation. I will also show our recent simulations of dynamical generation of these excitations in rotating traps.
