FIRST DELIVERABLE 10 points
You’ll begin with a Preliminary Thought Letter.

Try to identify one goal to do with social media (ideally applied within an institutional setting) and brainstorm where to go with it, using these questions as a guideline:

a. Identify your larger purposes and goals in understanding digital media generally. What strengths and knowledge do you already have to get there? What research would help?

b. What's your best idea of what the answer might be (this could end up being the "hypothesis" to your project later)?

c. What do you know about your audience (prejudices, best style to use in addressing them, what do they already know?).

This is a "free-form" letter that allows you to communicate to me in conversational English, rather than in academic style. There is no length requirement, but documents should be single-spaced, and double-spaced between paragraphs.

Use subject headings and plenty of white-space to make the document as easy to digest as possible.

Refer to rules of clear writing and the use of the active voice on the course website, Week 1.

You will not be judged on the strength of your idea, but rather on your effort to answer the above questions, and on the clarity of how you express yourself.

This is due before 5:59 p.m. April 17th, using this link to submit via Collect-It. I've also provided a sample Thought Letter.

E-mail submissions will not be accepted. You will need your UW Net ID to login and upload your file where you try to identify the problem that you’d like to research, and why you think it’s important.
