    Questions to consider (illustrate):
    • Theory of expectancy-value: "the theory essentially states that a person has a preconceived idea that a particular medium or message will best satisfy his need."
      1) What medium would you use to find a telephone number for a local auto repair shop when you are at home? At work? Stuck on the side of the road? Why? What are your choices?
      2) What medium would you use to find hours of operation for a local restaurant -- at home, at work, while walking around downtown? Why?
    • Other things to ponder:
      About war & technology - see Wealth & Democracy: A Political History of the American Rich ; how do we fund long-range research that may have no pay-off at all?; Jac's attempt at sarcasm; spam as an externality; does push always work?; what is the role of the commons today? - example : wireless NYC v Seattle; the "myth" of the free market?
  • Discussion of papers, proposals, readings. 2003 project examples. Proposals should provide overview of the focus of each of the three papers (methodology). Discussion leader assignments is in digital form as well.
