week 4 : 25 october

diffusion theory

Reading for This Evening

  • Reading review and lecture
  • Student blogs of note this week:
    • Doug - relates to popular culture
    • Drew - personalizes Fidler
    • Heather - succinct and illustrated!
    • Joel - reflecions on Postman
    • Robert P - on our instant society
  • Change in Blogging Assignment - Comments:
    • Because of the amount of spam (please, enable verification for commenting!) on Blogger -- I have found it a time sink to try to ascertain who has commented each week.
    • Therefore - I am asking you to please send me an e-mail by the end of this week and by the end of week eight (8) with a link to each post where you have a comment. This week's e-mail should contain references to comments made Weeks 2 - 4; the second e-mail should contain references to comments made Weeks 5-8. Please include "blog comments" in the subject line (for filtering!). My apologies for the retroactive work.
  • Assignments for Next Week:
    • Tech skills assessment (if you haven't already done it)
    • Speaker Prep: Peer Group 5 is tasked with developing questions (or being prepared to ask questions) for our speaker nex week. The topic is personal technology and managing information overload. Anyone may ask questions next week - but if the room goes silent, it is Group 5's job to engage the speaker!
    • Reading Assignment. Reading summaries are due 8 am Monday before Tuesday's class unless otherwise noted. PLEASE check the readings page for details! (Note: there is no requirement to bring supplemental material into the discussion next week!)

Each group should decide how it wishes to present its information to the class -- you will "have the floor" for approximately 20 minutes per peer group.
    • First paper due Wednesday 9 Nov @ 6 pm via eSubmit.
Reminder: I will review rough drafts if I receive them in soon enough in advance. First come, first served.
