week 6 : 10 february
Audience Issues
Tonight's Schedule
- Reading Review
- Teams meet to discuss readings and develop learning points.
-
Class re-assembles in groups of 3-4 (each group should have one member
from each team - two groups will have four members because we aren't easily
divisible by three). Information transfer/knowledge sharing. Develop one
question to ask other class members.
-
Groups report out; discussion based upon the questions posed by each triad.
- HUB time
-
Persona methodology
We will work through the process of building
a persona. You'll be working within your teams.
-
Additional team time.
-
Alert:
See syllabus evaluation
for updates on book review, design analysis (due dates are noted,
per class discussion and e-mail distribution). Also noted is the in-class
discussion scheduled for each due date.
-
e-mail policy:
See details of e-mail policy.
Please consider using a subject header (such as Team) to differentiate
mail where I am being cc'ed from mail which needs an immediate
response.
Notes
Assignments
-
Readings (please respond to questions and ePost by 6 pm on Monday)
-
Task Analysis
After reading this article, what do you think are five primary tasks that users
are trying to accomplish when they come to your web site? What sub-tasks might
be associated with each? On what basis did
you make that determination?
-
Information design using card sorting
Please read this article and then develop a list of topics that you think
is relevant for your team site. Bring the list to class next week in whatever
format your team has agreed upon (text, html, excel, what-ever). No need
to ePost on this article unless you feel so inclined - but it is imperative
that you read it first. We will build an affinity diagram next week.
feedback
For those who are interested, here is a summary of tonight's feedback.

Hide Feedback
- Great group activity. I like working in small groups.
- I liked the in-class regroup reading discussions - both in group
and open discussion. Brought our readings more to life and memory.
Good idea.
- Liked learning what a persona is. It was fun.
- I liked reading I did for this week. Make me think of group projects.
It was fun doing persona exercise. It stretched my thinking.
- I liked tonight's group work (readings). It's very useful to
share what peers got from the readings.
- Enjoyed the in-class team exercises; helped group focus. Liked
last week's reading approach where quotes were posted for
everyone to read and have class discussion.
- I think it went pretty well. Not sure about the question part, though.
- I liked this method [discussion readings] - never done it before but mainly
I like that we've been doing a variety of methods on the reading. I
like anything that changes regularly before boredom sets in.
- I like the way we talked about our reading in class, in a small group.
But I'm not sure if we still need to post feedback on the website?
- I liked the shared knowledge from this week's reading. It was
dynamic, interactive and fun. This was a fun class all together.
- The readings and sharing were good.
- Readings are good, maybe a little too much discussion. I feel we
should work on our team projects more.
