Final Paper

Instructions for Term Paper
Course grade will be determined based on the quality of your Term Paper. The paper must be prepared using Ariel 11 point font with 1 inch margins.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major and global public health problem. Despite our knowledge on how HCV is spread, and that we have an available therapy for infection, thousands of new cases of HCV continue to occur, causing liver disease, immunologic disorders, and death worldwide.

With your new knowledge of HCV you are now charged with assessing the features of the pandemic. Pepare a 3-6 page essay describing 1) Your plan to reduce the incidence of HCV within contemporary high risk populations in the USA (define who these populations are), 2) The specific features of the virus itself that confer its ability to bind and enter cells and to continuously evolve during infection (how do these features support chronic HCV infection?); 3) The spectrum of disease associated with HCV infection, and how this might differ between specific populations (what are the major disease features of chronic HCV?); 4) Mechanisms by which HCV triggers and controls immunity to infection; and 4) The potential benefits and limitations of new therapies for HCV infection (include a discussion of at least two new therapeutic applications that are now in clinical trials); 5) Conclude your essay with a paragraph describing your assessment for the future of HCV.

The Term Paper is due on Wednesday June 10 as a paper copy to be turned in to Christina Szabo by 3 PM (room H564).
