Thematic Map Requirements

 

The following Map Elements must be considered on every map you produce. 

Parts of a thematic map

[Dent calls them 'elements' page 241, Table 13.1 p. 242 (not in sense of Robinson...) ]

Required Elements (you must explain why you did not include one of these required elements on your map to receive full credit):

• Title (space, attribute and time)
• Legend (key) with appropriate legend title (works in combination with the Map Title)
• Scale (somehow: text, bar scale, ...) (A scale may not be appropriate for the map you are producing – do not include a scale if it is not appropriate)
• Credits (sources)
• the map! (region covered: "base map" and symbols "thematic overlay")

 

Optional parts (depend on circumstance) (if you include one or more of these elements explain why you have included the element(s) and what parameters you considered - i.e. graticule interval, which place names etc.):
