3.2 Define a New Site

  1. Open DreamweaverMX and press F8 to open the Site Panel/Window if it is not already open.
Note: If you have worked in Dreamweaver before, you will need to choose Site > New Site. If you have not, Dreamweaver will show a Folder with "no site defined" and you should click "Define a Site"
  2. DreamweaverMX uses a Wizard process to guide you thought the steps. Make sure the Basic tab is selected. We'll address the Advanced tab later.
  3. Type Lesson 3 in the "What would you like to name your site?" field. Click Next. This is an internal naming convention, so pick something that makes sense to you and those who are working on the site with you.
  4. Next, Dreamweaver asks you to pick a server technology. Select the No, I do not want to use a server technology radio button. Click Next.
  5. The next panel asks you to indicate how you are going to develop your pages. Select Edit local copies on my machine, then upload to server when ready (recommended). Click the browse icon to navigate to the folder that contains the lesson_3 folder. Macintosh users, highlight the folder and click Choose; Windows users, open the folder and click Select. Click Next
  6. The next panel allows you to configure DreamweaverMX to connect (FTP) to your Web server. Skip this for now. Select None and then click Next.
  7. The next screen is a summary of these settings. Review it to make sure it looks like this screenshot. When you are ready, click Done.
