3.3 Files and Folders

Use the DreamweaverMX Site Panel/Window to create new folders and files or to move files and folders. Doing this within Dreamweaver is essential if you want Dreamweaver to keep track of where files and folders have been moved, renamed, added or deleted in order to keep hyperlinks current.

This exercise will show you how to add folders to the Lesson 3 site.

this lesson

  1. Make sure the Site Panel is open (F8). Select the folder at the top of the Local Folder view (right side of expanded panel); in this case, it is named Site - Lesson 3.
  2. Win: from Site tab, choose File > New Folder
Mac: from main Site menu, choose Site > Site Files View > New Folder (shift+cmd+N)
Name the folder html (note, lower case); press Enter/Return.
  3. Move files into the folder:
    Select - Win: Click art_index.html, then Ctrl+Click contact_index.html, how_index.html, photo_index.html, resource_index.html and tools_index.html.
    Select - Mac: Click art_index.html, then Cmd+Click contact_index.html, how_index.html, photo_index.html, resource_index.html and tools_index.html.
Drag to the html folder; this will move all six files.
