3.5 Accessing the Web server

When you are ready to test your files on the WWW, you need to FTP them to your Web server. You can do that with any FTP client (remember that UW requires SecureFTP) or you can use the FTP capability built into Dreamweaver.

To complete this exercise, you need to know the following:
  • FTP Host (homer.u.washington.edu)
  • Host Directory (public_html)
  • Login (your NetID)
  • Password (your pswd)

this lesson

  1. Open the DreamweaverMX Site Panel (F8); select edit sites, Lesson 3. Click edit.
  2. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the panel. In the left column (category), select Remote Info. From the Access drop-down menu, select FTP
  3. Complete the DreamweaverMX panel information; click test. [Note, this will not work remotely on UW servers due to authentication requirements -- you must use a SecureFTP client.]
  4. Click ok if successful, cancel if unsuccessful.
