Project description

I plan to explore the way in which two artistic media (poetic text and painting reproduction) could share the same support in a new electronic edition. I shall edit Dante Gabriel Rossetti's Sonnets for Pictures accompanied by the images which inspired them. I think it would be of interest for Pre-Raphaelites Studies to have the juxtaposition of texts and pictures in this approach which will aid to the understanding of this particular case of "double artist", poet and painter.

I shall work in the texts incorporated into Rossetti's paintings or those inscribed on the original frames of the paintings. In the art albums already published these texts are illegible. I intend to excerpt the part where the text occurs from the original artwork and offer the reader an opportunity to see how the pictorial component of the text and the textual component itself add meaning to the whole.
