Textbook: James F. Kurose and Keith W. Ross, Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach, 7th edition, Addison-Wesley, 2017.

Software: Wireshark.

Course Description: This course provides an introduction to fundamental concepts in the design and implementation of computer communication networks, their protocols, and applications. Topics to be covered include: overview of network architectures, applications, transport, congestion, routing, and data link protocols, addressing, local area networks, multiple access, and wireless networks. Examples will be drawn primarily from the Internet (e.g., TCP, UDP, and IP) protocol suite.

Prerequisites: An inquisitive mind, and EE 505.

Grading:

  • Homeworks: 15%
  • Labs: 15%
  • Midterm: 30%
  • Final: 40%
Notes:
  • Homeworks will be due via the class Dropbox, or in class (paper). No late homeworks will be accepted.
  • There will be no make-up exams; absences with valid reasons will have credit pro-rated to the Final.
  • All exams are in-class, open-book.
