NOAA Fish Friendly Shoreline Project |
Project Overview: The UW graduate student team intends to complete three overlapping and interwoven projects: 1) Lake Washington property owner interviews to identify barriers and incentives to adopt fish friendly shoreline modifications, 2) characterization of Lake Washington shoreline (using GIS and other tools), and 3) characterization of shoreline regulatory framework including existing barriers and incentive programs.
Narrowed Focus: We are narrowly focusing our efforts on the Lake Washington shoreline property owners and their shorelines. Our work will only target shoreline property owners for interviews and development of outreach plan and tools. We will not be directly targeting contractors, the general public, regulatory groups, or lake jurisdictions with our outreach plan, but general outreach messages we generate may also apply to these groups. Given past work on dock modifications, we will focus our outreach efforts on shorelines. However, outreach messages regarding dock modifications should be included in the eventual outreach program as a single source of information should provide guidance on all options for incorporating fish friendly elements into shorelines including dock modifications. The project is comprised of three components: Component I: Gather General Background Information Component II: Interviews with Property Owners/Landholders Component III: Regulatory Characterization |
