Port of Tacoma

environmental management system

This website represents the Environmental Management System Value Assessment Project, a yearlong keystone project through the Graduate Certificate Program in Environmental Management at the University of Washington. The project team includes four students and a faculty advisor who will complete a project for a community partner, The Port of Tacoma.

The team will provide the Port of Tacoma with an evaluation of their ecological footprint; information pertaining to how they can create a sustainable business model; and an evaluation of whether or not an Environmental Management System (EMS) would be the most beneficial environmental management tool for the Port. The Port is currently searching for the tool that will foster the greatest environmental gain for the Port, their community partners, and the residents in the region, while promoting successful environmental protection and compliance with environmental regulations.

Please note that the final presentation and final report are now available through the links at the left.

This project is run through the University of Washington's Program on the Environment and is made possible through support from the Henry Luce Foundation.
