05/18/06 :: Extra Credit Oppotunities

If you are interested in earning some extra credit, there are two ways to receive credit. Please follow directions in order to receive credit.

1.  One way is to do service learning (volunteering) either on campus or in your community. For each hour you volunteer, you will receive 2 points towards your grade. You are required to obtain the signature of the onsite supervisor, as well as write a one page typed summary and reflection about your experience. Please refrain from just picking up litter as an activity as you will not receive credit. Have fun by improving our environment!  Click here for some options.

You are not limited to the posted options. If you find other opportunities than those that are listed on April's web site, feel free to email either of us and we will post them.

2.  The other way is to attend an environmentally related seminar/lecture/reading. After attending the seminar, you will be required to write a one page summary and one page reflection (double spaced of course) about your experience. You will receive 5 points by doing this option.

The UW's Program on the Environment's events calendar is a good place to start looking.

04/14/06 :: More on Earth Day & Extra Credit Points:

For those wanting to do the flyer here is a few more tidbits to help you out.
Discounts on campus inlcude:
-- 20 cents off on any standard sized coffee beverage or 10 cents off of any tea at the espresso stand for people who bring their own "mug".
-- In the Cafeteria and Munch Mart we will charge $1 for a standard sized "mug" of coffee and 10 cents off for any tea.

04/11/06 :: On Campus Earth Day Celebration Opportunities:

1. For 4 extra credit points - Create an earth day flyer (regular sized sheet of paper is fine) announcing the "Bring your Own Cup" day on Thursday, April 20th. Be creative and do your best to get the word out. (Why is it so important to reduce paper cup usage and promote reuse, etc) Bring to me by Friday, April 14th (you can leave it with the Math, Science department to put in my mailbox) so I can make copies for you. In choosing this option, you will need to arrange to come pick up the copies on Monday. The goal is to have the flyers posted on Monday. Otherwise, bring drop off a copy to me on Monday so I can see your work. If you choose this option, then you are required to make your own copies. Also, you are responsible for posting your own flyers. This also is a requirement to finish out the project.

2. On Saturday, April 22nd, get dirty and help remove invasive species and planting natives to improve our campus habitat. Meet at 8:30am at the Facilities loading dock and you'll be done by noon. Email Michael Brokaw to sign up at mbrokaw@sccd.ctc.edu. Receive 2 points per hour you work.

04/04/06 :: Classrom Change -The classroom for the course has been changed.  We will meet in CC 3452, NOT 3450 from now on.

04-04/06 :: Web Updates Made - The schedule has been been updated and the readings and lecture notes for today are now available.
