Problem 1

Douglas wanted to run a line (AE in Figure 1) from one corner of his property to another in order to put a fence on the line. He knew the location of the two corners but neither the bearing nor the length of the line. The line passed through heavily wooded area. Utilizing roads and power line right-of-way, he ran a random line as shown in Figure 1. For the given data, compute the bearing to be used in running line AE. What is the length of the line? The bearing of AB was determined to be S 16°30' E.

Problem 2

The bearings and lengths shown for the closed traverse ABCDEA of Figure 2 have been balanced. It is desired to divide the parcel into two tracts by the dashed line shown. The cut-off line is to begin at a point on line BC, 100.00 ft from B and run parallel to AB until it intersects AE. What is the length of this cut-off line and how far from A will it intersect AE?
