How to set up the Calcomp 9000 digitizer (labeled digitizer #2):

Pack 2001

Move the digitizer to the desired location.

Put the computer somewhere close by to have good access to both the tablet and the computer.

Leave room for the digitizer boxes as they are old and clunky.

This digitizer take a box for doing plans work, and another box for Arc/info & LoggerPC work.  I personally set the switches for this year.  The trick is in getting the switches on the back set up correctly.

Set the switches on the back of the boxes to the appropriate settings.  This should already be taken care of, since there should be a dedicated plans box and another box for arc and loggerpc, but it never hurts to make sure.

Get your cables set up.  You really only need one set, since you won’t be digitizing into more than one program at once.  That way, when you move from doing PLANS work to digitizing roads or whatever, just unplug the cable from one box and put it into the other.

Hook the cables up, from the digitizer to the box, box to the computer, puck to the digitizer, and power cables for everything.

Follow directions on the boxes too.

That should be it.  The only trick is in using the correct digitizer files with the programs.

 

How to set up the Calcomp Drawing Board III Digitizer

PLANS Setup

The Drawing Board III uses the following settings in PLANS:

Driver Calcomp 9500 AutoCad compatible
Interrupt 60h (96 dec)
COM port COM 2
Baud rate 9600
Parity Even
Data bits 7
Stop bit 1
AutoCad compatible? NO

LoggerPC Setup

Use the following settings for using the DB3 digitizer:

Driver: Cal9500.wdc; make sure that you've got these settings in the configuration file:

Baud rate 9600
Parity even
Data bits 7
Stop bits 1
Flow control none
COM port COM 2

To look at these settings, click on "Configure", then select communications settings. You shouldn't need to touch anything else.

Use the following setup on the configuration bank:

Coincidentily, these are the same settings as Arc/Info. Don't always count on that convenience, though, so create a separate configuration setup on the board and label LPC. Note that this has already been done, but it doesn't hurt to make sure. Refer to the previous handbook entry on how to configure the digitizers for particular settings.

Arc/Info

When using arc/info, use the 9100 digitizer setup. Please refer to the previous handbook entry on setting up digitizers with arc/info.
