The lecture for Nov 18th will now be a case study of the Bristol Bay fisheries. The ppt is on the website under lectures. The assignment for the second paper is now available on the website under Assignments. For several weeks this quarter, labs will be held in classrooms rather than the computer lab. Lab sessions for the Monday lab will be held in FSH 203 (2nd floor, top of the stairs at the south end of the building) on Oct 26, Nov 2, Nov 30 and Dec 7th. Lab sessions for the Tuesday lab will be held in FSH 213 (2nd floor at the top of the stairs t the north-west end of the building) on Oct 27, Nov 3, Dec 1, and Dec 8th. All other labs will be held in the computer lab as usual. I have added page with two past mid-terms and a study guide. The link to the page is on your left.CJFAS instructions to authors are now on the website on the assignments page. I've just added the lecture on Introduction to fisheries management from Friday (Oct 9th).The electronic turn-in link for your first assignment is now live. I'll explain how it works at the beginning of lab. The evaluations page now includes a copy of the powerpoint explaining the evaluation process, forms for lecture, lab evaluations etc., and a file showing your assignments - 2 lectures each, 1 lab each, and 1 each of exam, paper, or Hilborn chapter. This is based on the class list as I have it, so there will be a few changes as that settles down - I'll assign the remaining evaluations when that happens. Please post any questions to the discussion board. I've added a file to the link 'books and presentation dates' on your left. This shows the book that you are signed up to review and whether it is Ray's copy or not. (If I have made a mistake, please let me know by e-mail.) As the lab groups are large, we will have one group from each lab present one week and one group another week. I used the random number generator in excel to assign people to each group. The date for your presentation is included in the file, so please make a note of it. Guidelines for the book review presentations are at the link below.I've changed the e-reserves so that is now based on pdfs rather than weblinks. Please let me know through the discussion board if there are any further problems. I have posted answers to a couple of questions on the discussion board (link to your left). If you have a question, please do post it to the discussion board, rather than e-mailing me. E-mails may get lost in traffic, but I will check the discussion board every morning. The discussion board will also allow everyone to see the question and response, so you may get an answer sooner. All of the readings (including those for Assignment 1) are now accessible through e-reserves - click on the link on your left. And here is a link to some online training for Word. Here is a link to some online excel skills training. There is a list of books to review. Please take a look at this list and choose one you would like to review - only one person from each lab group can review each book, so it would be good to have a few choices. Guidelines on book review presentations are also posted. For course readings, click on reading list. For links to lecture powerpoints, click on Lectures. The schedule and key dates are now available online. First day of class is September 30th. |
