Extra Credit—Undergraduate Research Symposium
This is an opportunity to earn up to 10 points of extra credit. On Friday, May 18 from 1:00pm to 5:30pm, the Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held in Mary Gates Hall (MGH. You can stop by at any time and stay for as long as you want.
UW Students from multiple departments will be presenting work they did on various research projects. These presentations include both talks and posters. Attending the symposium is a great way to learn about all the work done at UW and suggests opportunities you may want to explore in the future.
Extra-Credit Assignment (worth up to 10pts)
You need to attend the fair and select a projec that you find interesting. This project should be related to IT in some way, but does not need to be specifically about IT. For example, an astronomy project that relied on complex computer models involves IT. A sociology project about use of Facebook by recent immigrants would also involve IT.
Once you have selected your project, you will need to do the following:
- Write down the title of the project and its presenter.
- Write an essay describing the project and how it relates to IT and the notions of fluency that we have discussed in the course.
Your essay will need to be at least 200 words, well-formatted, and with proper grammar and spelling. Your score will depend on the level of insight and reflection that you demonstrate in your essay.
Submitting Your Work
You will need to submit your essay (Word or PDF format) to your section's dropbox by 10pm on Monday, May 21. There will be no late turn-ins accepted for this extra credit.
