As geographers, we are concerned with humans and the Earth's surface as the place and space in which they live. Within the urban context, housing certainly has a diverse and fluxing geography that qualifies it for this field of study. We should approach affordable housing with a positive yet cautionary attitude; because, on the one hand affordable housing seeks to palliate the uneven geography that plays out on the urban landscape and provide those who would otherwise be left out in the cold--so to speak--with a home. On the other hand, it seems the affordable housing issue further delineates an ongoing and increasing epidemic. This delineation should serve as an indicator of a problem that needs to be corrected in a deeper and more meaningful way. Because, while affordable housing does provide shelter and stability to those that would otherwise have difficulty securing it for themselves without assistance, it does not truly dig down to the roots of the problem.
