Explores methodologies to obtain information regarding health status and services in developing countries. The focus is on practical applications of research. Sessions will discuss evaluation methods that require minimal resources and their applicability and limitations. New approaches to assessment of primary health care effectiveness will be addressed. A major aspect of this course is the students' development of their own research proposals, an opportunity to develop future projects or thesis proposals. A computer laboratory will introduce the software program 'Epi Info' and DHS datasets (Demographic & Health Surveys). Students are strongly encouraged to take the class for 4-credits, which includes the lab (3-credits is available without the lab).
