Flow of Wet-Bedded Glaciers

Week 1 - Seminal basal processes paper

Scribe:  Kristin

We talked about the theory:  the regelation layer, the bubble trains that form above and downstream of bedrock obstacles as a consequence, and touched briefly on ice bridges over basal cavities.

We were also interested in the ice-block experiment that simulated regelation.  It was interesting how standards and technology have evolved since then: the "elbow" of their deformation curve, the onset of regelation, occurred overnight and thus has no data points.  Today, the experiment would be automated; perhaps sometime between then and today, a graduate student would camp out in the lab to take those data.
