Homework Assignments for Weeks 6-7

 

WEEK 6

For Monday, November 2.  Prepare for quiz on vocabulary in TYH, Chapter 3 and numbers 20-30.  Listen to and “memorize” Conversation 3b.


For Tuesday, November 3.   Read carefully TYH, sections 4.1 and 4.2.

[HW6a] This assignment (reinforcing Ch 3 grammar) is to be done in writing and is to be turned in and graded.  Translate the following sentences into Hindi:

  1. How are you (formal) now? I am completely OK, thanks. And you?
  2. Who is (that) in that picture? [“Hinglish”: In that picture, that is who?] It/she is my younger sister, Anītā.
  3. In my family are a husband and wife, a whole lot of children and even a dog (कुत्ताm). [Tip: pay attention to verb agreement].
  4. Is there a new black rug on the floor?
  5. There is a very small and dirty kitchen in this house.
  6. What kind of curtains are there on the walls? They are very cheap red curtains.
  7. Where are my eyeglasses?  Are they not in the cupboard? Are they on your table?
  8. These things are not Indian, they are from Pakistan. [Use सामान]

 

For Wednesday, November 4.  No assignment. Review grammar studied so far from TYH3 & 4.

 

For Thursday, November 5.  Read carefully TYH, grammar sections 4.3-.4.5 (note that section 4.5 [on the vocative case] is mislabeled 4.4 in your text). 

 

For Friday, November 6. “Memorize” conversation 4a. Come prepared for a dictation in class. (Don’t be late).

 

WEEK 7

For Monday, November 9.  In class we will read from the reading handout रानी, मदन, अमर – मेरी प्रेवेशिका, read the first two pages out loud for practice at home. Bring your copy (given to you last week) to class.

 

For Tuesday, November 10.   Prepare for quiz on vocabulary in TYH, Chapter 4 and numbers 30-40. Review TYH 4 grammar.

 

For Wednesday, November 11.  NO CLASS—VETERANS DAY.


For Thursday, November 12.  [HW7a] Do in writing exercises 4a.2 and 4b.1. We will go over this in class, and you will turn it at the end of class.  Listen to and “memorize” Conversation 4b.

 

For Friday, November 13.  Prepare for test on TYH, Chapters 3-4.

 

WEEK 8
For Monday, November 16.  Come prepared for a dictation at beginning of class, this one will have an unseenpasage as well. Prepare sight reading passage handed out in class earlier, रानी, मदन, अमर.
