Homework Assignments for Weeks 7 and 8
(All references are to the Teach Yourself Hindi textbook)

Assignments marked with the symbol ! are to be done in writing and turned in to be corrected and graded. The symbol — marks assignments to be prepared for conversations.

For Monday,  February 16 .  PRESIDENTS’ DAY – NO CLASS

For Tuesday, February 17.   Prepare for vocabulary quiz on Chapter 10 (including numbers 80-90).

For Wednesday, February 18.  Prepare for unit test on Chapter 10.

For Thursday, February 19.  Read carefully sections 11.1 and 11.2, both dealing with perfective verb forms. 
 
For Friday, February 20.  ! [HW7a] Translate each of the following into Hindi.  Pay careful attention as to whether the simple perfective, present perfective, or past perfective is to be used in each instance:
  1. I (f.) went
  2. we (m.) came
  3. they (m.) emerged
  4. you (तुम f.) have laughed
  5. the small boys cried
  6. what has happened?
  7. you (तू m.) had emerged
  8. we (f.) have brought
  9. the books have been printed
  10. the girl returned

  12. the teachers had returned
  13. Father had gotten up
  14. Mother arose
  15. you (आप f.) have gone to Mumbai.

Prepare carefully reading passage बगीचे का घेरा, टोपीवाला from the चलो पाठशाला चलें  handout.  Use your Hindi-English dictionary to aid in translating unfamiliar Hindi vocabulary.

For Monday, February 23.   Spoken Hindi practice: Review all the sentences you have prepared for conversation practice so far. Come prepared to use these in class.
 
For Tuesday, February 24. Read carefully grammar sections 11.3 and 11.4.  ! [HW8a] Do exercises 11a.1 and 11a.2.

For Wednesday, February 25.  Memorize Conversation 11b. ! Review your conversation Final Project and incorporate the perfective verb form where appropriate (no submission required, if working with a partner, you will practice jointly in class).

For Thursday, February 26.   ! [HW8b] Do in writing exercises 11b.1, 11.b.2, 11.c.1 and 11.c.2.

For Friday, February 27.  Prepare for vocabulary test on Chapter 11 plus numbers 90-100. —Memorize Conversation 11c. ! [HW8c] Turn in your second intermediate submission of Final Project (conversation script).

For Monday, March 2.  Prepare for test on Chapter 11.
