Homework Assignments for Weeks 7 and 8
(All references are to the Teach Yourself Hindi textbook)

Assignments marked with the symbol ! are to be done in writing and turned in to be corrected and graded.

For Monday, May 11.   Prepare Conversation 16a. ! [HWSC4] Write out sentences for µ Spoken Conversation #4 per vocabulary and script in handout. ! [Proj1] First rough draft of Final Project due (at least 1/3rd the final length)

For Tuesday, May 12.  Read carefully TYH, sections 16.3-6. 

For Wednesday, May 13. Prepare carefully for µ Spoken Conversation #4 – memorize your corrected prepared sentences.

For Thursday, May 14. ! [HW7a] Do in writing exercise 16b.2 and 16b.3. Review TYH 16 Grammar.

For Friday, May 15.  Prepare for vocabulary quiz on Chapter 16 and large numbers.


For Monday, May 18. Prepare for Conversation 16b. ! [HWSC5] Write out sentences for µ Spoken Conversation #5 per vocabulary and script in handout. ! [Proj2] Second rough draft of Final Project due (at least 2/3rd the final length)

For Tuesday, May 19.  Study for unit test on Chapter 16.

For Wednesday, May 20.  Prepare carefully for µ Spoken Conversation #5 – memorize your prepared sentences.

For Thursday, May 21.  Read carefully grammar sections 17.1 (conditional sentences (2)) and 17.2 (हालांकि). 

For Friday, May 22.  Review Conversation 17a. (You do not have to memorize).
! [HW8a] Translate the following sentences into Hindi using constructions introduced in 17.1 and 17.2.  In sentences 1-3, use the perfective in the antecedent clauses.
(1) If it rains tomorrow, we will go to the movies together.
(2) If you remember that girl's name, call me.
(3) If she goes to India to study Hindi, she will certainly be able to speak with Auntie.
(4) If she had gone to India, she would have been able to speak to many people.
(5) If I were a rich man, I'd be able to buy expensive clothes.
(6) If she had read the book, she'd have known the name of the writer.
(7) Even though he's only five years old, he has read many poems. (use हालांकि ).
(8) Even though the condition of the country is improving, still many don't have much money. (use यद्यपि...तथापि.

For Monday, May 25.  Memorial Day Observed – NO CLASS

For Tuesday, May 26.  Read carefully grammar sections 17.3 and 17.4.  ! [HW9a] Do exercise 17b.2.  ! [HWSC6] Write out sentences for µ Spoken Conversation #6 per vocabulary and script in handout (you will not turn this in till the end of class on Tuesday, May 22). ! [Proj3] Completed Final Project due – turn in full script incorporating corrections/enhancements from first two submissions.
