Before you jump into the self-instruction modules...
It's a good idea to take stock of your level of preparedness
and ability to set goals independently before you begin.
    Ask yourself:
    Goals
      • Do I want to learn how to use a new tool?
      • Do I want to advance skills I already have?
    Preparation
      • Do I have the tools to successfully complete modules independently (eg computer and Internet access)?
      • Have I ever learned a new craft or skill on my own?
      • If I don't understand something at first, am I able to go back and review it until it becomes clearer to me?
    Support:
      • Do I have people or resources available to me to assist when needed?
    Commitment:
      • Can I organize my time to free up enough time on a regular basis so I can complete the learning tasks?
      • When faced with a new situation or challenge, do I usually begin by trying to work things out for myself?

The more "yes" answers you have to the above questions, the more likely it is that you are ready to assume the role of an independent, self-directed learner.
