Zones of the dermal-epidermal junction form

These two distinctive zones of the dermal-epidermal junction are distinguishable very early on (5-6 weeks). At this stage, the lamina lucida is crossed by fine filaments from the basal cells to the lamina densa.

The lamina lucida is apparent here above the lamina densa to which the arrows point.
