Nail field is apparent
When the epidermis is 2 to 3 cells thick and still covered by periderm, the shape of the nail is already apparent, even though none of the structures of the nail have yet formed. The nail field is defined by lateral and proximal sulci and a distal dorsal ridge, which has already keratinized.
