Stratification week 15

Keratinization of Follicles

At week 15, keratinization of follicles occurs. Keratinization is the process of morphologic and biochemical differentiation resulting in formation of an anucleate stratum cocorneum as occurs in normal epidermis. In skin development, the hair follicles-to-be keratinize first, before the epidermis in between, or interfollicular epidermis.

Note the complex stratified and differentiated epidermis. The clear round structure within the epidermis is the part of the hair follicle showing comfuation (the faintly staining material within).
