Geographic Highlights
Margaret Fuller stated that she was not "particularly anxious to give the
geography of the scene, inasmuch as it seemed to me no route, nor series
of stations, but a garden interspersed with cottages, groves and flowery
lawns, through which a stately river ran." However, any one who reads
Summer on the Lakes will soon be struck by Fuller's
descriptions of scenes that reveal the beauty of the "far west." These
links are provided to help contextualize the geography and history of the
communities and regions featured in her work.

Mackinac Island & Mackinaw City
Fuller somtimes refers to Mackinaw Island instead of Mackinac Island; her

infomation about the island.
-
Mackinaw City - Northern Michigan Online

This site states that "[D]ifferent spellings of the name "Mackinaw"
reflect the history of the region, which developed from native tribes to
French fur trappers to British soldiers." This may account for the
different ways that Fuller referred to the city and the island.
