Spring 2008
Information School
University of Washington

What's new?

  • Our first class is Monday, March 31 at 1:00, MGH 295.
  • Here is the syllabus — I will bring copies to the first class
  • The class mailing list: info445a_sp08@u.washington.edu (Archive)
  • To prepare for our first class, please:

    1. Read this paper:
Dean, J. and Ghemawat, S. 2008. MapReduce: simplified data processing on large clusters. Commun. ACM 51, 1 (Jan. 2008), 107-113. DOI=http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/1327452.1327492

    2. Bring a 1-page, rough description of a project that you would like to complete during the quarter and be prepared to discuss your project. Do not worry if you don't have a project idea in mind -- I will bring a couple of 1-page descriptions of projects that you might use or adapt.

    3. Be sure that you have this book and that you are comfortable with the material in chapters 1-6. You should also be familiar with the material in chapters 9-13.
