Irish dancing is commonly thought of as traditional with elaborate dresses, wigs and make up. The last characteristic one would use is modern.
But that’s exactly how 15-year-old Rachel Snyder describes the dancing she performs with Fire and Ice Irish Dance.
Snyder has been dancing for six years, four with Fire and Ice.
“I like it because it’s all performance related and doesn’t have to do with competition,” she said.
There are a group of eight girls, ranging in age from 14 to 19, in the teen company.

“It’s very natural and precise I guess, and our
costumes are just kind of modern,” said Snyder. “And so it’s not as traditional as you would think.”
Songs they dance to are not traditional either. One performance song: “I Want Candy.”
“I really like the adrenaline rush when you perform and like having my friends in the audience,”
Snyder said.
