Notes on Group Summaries of Postmodern Theorists Groups had three questions for discussion: According to this theorists, postmodernism is ______________? How is this theorist's viewpoint similar to or different from other viewpoints? Does White Noise share the theorist’s ideas? We had time to address the first question.  Groups presented the following answers: Hassan Lyotard Huyssen Jameson Postmodernism embodies indeterminacy (ambiguity, discontinuity, pluralism, etc.) and immanence (mind’s capacity to generalize itself in symbols, to become its own environment) Postmodernism presents the unpresentable without sorrow Postmodernism mixes mass culture with art Postmodernism relies on pastiche, a reference to earlier texts and forms that does not mock because it lacks the sense of a linguistic norm Can postmodernism be reactionary, as it's imbricated in the logic of late capitalism?
